Tracing.

Report, on proposed exchange of land at Mount

The annexed tracing shows Mount, Cochrane and the

immediate neighbourhood.

The villages of Yaumati and Mongkok-tsui have grown very much in the last few years, and the building of Chinese tenement houses and factories is rapidly going on. The extension of the main street through these townships, across the tidal flat to the North, and into the New Territory towards Taipo, (eventually to be carried on to San Chun) has given a great impetus to building works and raised the value of land. immensely. Mount Cochrane stands up, an abrupt, hill 50 to 60 feet high, between Tsimshatsui and Yaumeti, the only approaches from the South, where the ferry launches land passengers from Hongkong, being by MacDonnell Road and by Austin Road End Station Street, the latter over a considerable rise.

The cutting down of Mount, Cochrane and effecting the change of land with the War Department will make it possible to continue Battery Street, which is 50 feet wide and level

to Austin Road as shewn on the tracing.

The reclamation to the West of Reclamation

Street will render it possible to extend Battery Street, to the North to join Station Street further on.

The cutting down of Mount Cochrane to the level of the surrounding streets will afford material, earth and stone, for the large reclamations in hand and proposed North of Kowloon Marine Lot 49 and West of Reclamation Street ami will largely increase the value of the land. It will also be an stremely convenient place from which to obtain material for further reclamation in extension North of the Naval Yarvi
